Noel has been busy in the Afghan War and an outbreak of cholera but all is quiet now. He describes the battle at Birkot, when he was in command of the Chitral Scouts and managed to capture Birkot. They had an anxious time defending about 200 miles of border. There was an armistice at the time but the Afghans did not keep to it. He describes the Chitrali people as being great shots but with little confidence in themselves. He requested leave but may not get it until 1921, by which time he will have served 18 years in India with only 5 months leave. He does not like the look of things in Europe as it seems the Bolsheviks may be victorious in Russia and the Imperialist party is gaining power in Germany.
