These photographs document the life of the Howe family from their arrival in Nairobi in 1925 until shortly after their return to the UK in 1938. The first three are family albums presumed to have been compiled by Mr or Mrs Howe, and the latter two were compiled by Zeala and are more focussed on her friends and activities. The majority of the images are taken in Kenya, with some others on trips to other parts of Africa or in the UK.
Of particular interest are the images of Mathari Mental Hospital, and of Nairobi in the aftermath of devastating fires.
Many of the images can be cross-referenced with Mr and Mrs Howe's memoirs of their time in Kenya, found within 1995/103/2.
