The regiment has had a very hard and trying time during the march down the Bara Valley under Sir William Lockhart. They constantly forded the river which was icy cold, and were attacked by Afridis. The Pioneers have been detailed to hold the Gandao Pass. Where they are staying is riddled with caves hundreds of years old. They are busy every day building defences for their new position where they will stay until 29 December. As the Bara Valley is blocked by snow there will be a Spring campaign after all.
