Rawdon is glad to hear that Phil is alright again. When coming back from Manipur, they had cholera on board and pulled one man through by giving him 30 bottles of soda water to drink. The Pioneers have been employed with making a fortified post to hold two battalions, with a wall 3ft thick and 4ft high. Then they had to make a road through a swamp, 15ft broad (Rawdon includes small sketches of these). The General is being very civil and is happy with the work the Pioneers have done; he had been severely wounded by the Boers at Majuba Hill. The plague is as bad as ever in Bombay (Mumbai) with as many as 212 deaths in a day.
