Rawdon writes about a sad incident - Captain Barwell from the Gurkhas was shot by his servant when cleaning his teeth in his tent, and died from his injuries. The Gurkhas dragged the murderer to the Guards tent and he will soon meet his deserts. Several sections of the Afridis have paid their fines of rifles and money as they do not want to fight any more. Rawdon is currently reading a book by Victor Hugo which is all about Guernsey. He has heard from Alec who has a chill. His wife May had a nasty experience when a carriage she was travelling in caught fire but she is alright now.
