Rawdon is glad that Emma will not be going to the land of 'revolution and cut-throats'. He will not be writing many more letters from this place, as they are due to leave Calcutta (Kolkata) on the 2nd April and be in Bombay (Mumbai) by the 14th. He is looking forward to having more female company. The weather has been good and so the men are more cheerful, and he has enjoyed the snipe-shooting. He criticizes the compensation allowance in the military.
