Correspondence from Rawdon Reilly to his sister Emma Pinckney nee Reilly, 31 December 1893

Rawdon wishes Emma Happy New Year and tells her of his pleasant Christmas including roast beef and plum pudding with twelve other men and a lady. He managed to secure the beef with great difficulty but it was very good. They played games and had a sing-song around a roaring fire. 5 men have died from pneumonia, but on the whole the regiment are still fit and strong. Rawdon spent Christmas day far up in the mountains hunting. The political agent of Manipur is sending him some elephants which will help with hunting the wild deer. Captain Thomson climbed to the top of the mountain and took a very good photo of the view. Lewis is posted to Bombay (Mumbai) again and Rawdon will see him in April.
