Correspondence from Rawdon Reilly to his sister Emma Pinckney nee Reilly, 4 February 1894
1999/115/2/3/53
1999/115/267.paper
Rawdon speaks of widower's wedding which ought not be dismal, and after all, Kathleen is not so very old. He has sent Emma a parcel containing orchids and hopes it will reach her alright. It has not been too bad for him there, though they will be glad of a change from wearing khaki uniform and corduroy breeches for 18 months. He has been out hunting on an elephant with his young doctor. They came across a swamp with grass 14ft high but the elephants would not go into it. The regiment will be moving on the 1st March and he will be glad once they are all safely in their new location. He asks Emma if she has seen in the papers what the Americans think of young girls going out without chaperones.
NB Date on letter is 4.2.92, but the envelope is stamped 1894.
