Rawdon's holiday is now coming to a close and he returns to Kirkee tomorrow, taking Lewis with him. The exchange rate is worse than ever. He has received a telegram from the wife of a friend who was mauled by a tiger last week, and has had his arm amputated at the shoulder - Rawdon comments no more cricket or pigsticking for him. Rawdon wonders if Culla will be married before he gets home and doesn't see the point in a long engagement as they have already known each other 14 years. He wonders about news of Kathleen after her marriage and when Ada will be getting married. He has not heard from Edith in an age and asks if Noel has been accepted into Wellington school yet. He has taken up golf because of his bad leg and hopes to give them a game soon.
