Two letters addressed to Emma, first letter from Rawdon: he thanks Emma for sending the photo frames, and for the photos of Evelyn and herself. There is an insect problem with red ants, cockroaches and a scorpion, but now Louise has put down some powdered borax which seems to have helped. The adjutant of the Artillery had a nasty accident when several battery horses bolted and he was thrown off; some of the horses will have to be shot. The Chitral busimess has gone badly which may lead to fighting. He is glad Lewis is at home as otherwise he would have been sent to the front. Second letter from Louisa: she thanks Emma for the lovely photos which are now in frames in the drawing room. They go for long walks together, drives into the country, and they visit the Boat Club. She is anxious for news from the frontier and hopes Rawdon will not have to go.
