Correspondence from Rawdon Reilly to his sister Emma Pinckney nee Reilly, 14 August 1896
It has rained every day for five weeks and is very dull. A lot of outdoor events have been cancelled and Command is now considering calling off the Assault of Arms which was due to happen on the 21 August. Rawdon is disappointed as he has been building up his men for different sporting events and was hoping to win some events like last year. He attended the Staff Corps Ball where the Pioneers showed off their spoils of war eg a huge tiger skin. The bill for the ball will be a big one as there were over 400 people there and a sit-down supper.
