This collection consists of films shot by Sir Jack Boles in the early 1960s, showing scenes from family and local life, as well as SEATO military manoeuvres.
Jack Dennis Boles (1925-2013) joined the Colonial Service after WW2 and was sent to North Borneo. There he spent 17 years as a district commissioner, helping in the restoration and development of the colony after four years of Japanese occupation. Towards the end of his time there, as North Borneo moved to independence as part of Malaysia, Boles served as Secretary to the last British Governor, Sir William Goode. After returning to Britain in 1964, he joined the National Trust and later served as Director-General from 1975 until he retired in 1983.
