Later caption: Kyaka (Tanganyika Territory). Typical of a row of Dukas in any setlement throughout East Africa. The Indian emporium is slightly grander than the African shops. They will be selling clothes, beads, tea, posho, warm Pepsi and Jinja cloth. There will be a tailor and a cobbler, and in the background a godown buying local produce (in this case cotton) for export to Jinja for ginning and spinning. The dusty track is the main road between Uganda and Tanganyika. 1960.
