The photographs in these albums appear to have been taken or collected by an unidentified British soldier whilst serving in the Near East and Egypt, possibly between 1941 and 1943. He may have served with the Pioneer Corps during World War II.
The first album includes scenes in the Lebanon, Syria and Palestine and could have been taken during the British invasion of Vichy French Syria and Lebanon in June-July 1941.
The second album contains photographs taken in Egypt and seem to be of the British Army Pioneer Corps.
There are some shots in both albums of black soldiers, probably members of the African Pioneer Corps who spent time in Egypt, Palestine, Syria and Lebanon.
1820 Company African Auxiliary Pioneer Corps was attached to the Pioneer Corps.
