This ledger contains correspondence, secretary’s reports, itemised lists and minutes of various committee meetings of the British Legion (Kenya) for the years 1936 - 1943.
This includes the minutes of meetings of the Executive Committee, the Finance Committee, the Women’s Committee, the Fete Committee, the Sick-Fund Sub-Committee and the Benevolent Committee, dating from 1936 to 1943. More information regarding the functions of these committees can be found at section level in 2003/212/1/2.
Of particular interest in this ledger is discussion surrounding the state and upkeep of war graves in the Voi Cemetery. Voi is a small town outside of Mombasa housing a cemetery of over 100 Commonwealth burials from the First World War.
There is also discussion surrounding concerns about racial mixing at British Legion events, and the formation of a branch to help the interests of African soldiers.
