This album predominantly contains images of India in the late Victorian period, including landscapes, street scenes and local people, many in Shimla.
This catalogue was produced with support from the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
Vernon Fortescue was an actor and touring theatre manager in the first half of the twentieth century. He was the owner of this album but it is unclear whether he compiled it himself or acquired it. The actress Betty Turner was a member of his theatre company and the album was at some point given to her by him.
