This collection consists of 20 films of varying lengths. The content reflects the life-style of a white businessman and his young family, based at some point in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). Many of the films feature travel, and record journeys made through various countries including Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), Tanganyika (Tanzania), the coastline of Kenya, and inland to Burundi. Different modes of transport are shown eg by car, train, boat and flying boat. The footage includes scenes of local communities and some local farming practices, and also wildlife in the landscape.
Brinton as a keen film-maker also edited his footage, adding intertitles, for example he combined his footage of sports events into one film entitled 'Sporting Medley'. This includes the Bulawayo Horse Races, an International Rugby match, and the Ellis Park Tennis finals.
The last 6 short films are predominantly of a domestic nature, featuring family holidays spent on beaches in East and South Africa.
Geoffrey Brinton (1897-1967 ) was a Company Director based in Southern Rhodesia. He married Lily Jessie Bailie in 1922, and they had several children including a daughter Imogen who appears in these films. Brinton was a keen amateur film-maker, and one film starts with a shot of Brinton filming himself while he is operating his camera (2008/040/007).
