The photographs in this series were collected together by Maxwell Ray in the course of his voyages around the world working for the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company. Most are amateur shots presumed taken by Ray himself but also included are professional images taken by onboard photographers and family photos from the UK presumably either sent to Maxwell or taken by him when on leave.
The images are mostly tourist shots of the crew and passengers of the Empress of Britain and destinations at which it called, which give an interesting insight into tourist activities of the period. Countries which feature heavily include Egypt, Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
