In the early 1990s, the King's African Rifles and East African Forces Association commissioned a film detailing the history of the King's African Rifles. This is available on the website of the Association at:
http://www.kingsafricanriflesassociation.co.uk/i-player/.
The film includes a narrative telling the order of events and times, by several British officers who were seconded from their regiments to serve with various battalions in East Africa. There are accounts of events such as the Mau Mau Rebellion, life of the officers leading up to independence, and footage of Queen Elizabeth II in Uganda. The film includes chanting of the Askari and several parades with the sound of Regimental Bands playing traditional African and Regimental Marches. It features an introduction by Brigadier Michael Biggs, President of the Association, who served with the KAR for ten years.
A large amount of original footage is used in the film, some of which was taken from the Matheson collection (ref. 2019/11).
Included here is the master version of the film plus 3 videotapes containing rushes.
